Elena Sutormina called Red Cross’ comment on Aleppo hospital attack “cynical”
Earlier, the International Committee of the Red Cross, commenting the shelling of the Russian Federation Defense Ministry hospital, said that the sides of conflict are not able to protect medical staff
Chairwoman of the RF Civic Chamber Commission on Public Diplomacy and Support for Compatriots Living Abroad Elena Sutormina called the comments made by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) about the attacks on the hospital in Aleppo as “cynical”. She urged the Red Cross to publish a report on its work done in the region.
Earlier, the International Committee of the Red Cross, commenting on the shelling of the Russian Federation Defense Ministry hospital, said that the sides of conflict are not able to fulfill their duty to protect medical staff.
"Of course, the comment by the ICRC media-office declaring that "the sides of conflict are not able to fulfill its duty to respect and to protect medical staff and patients of hospital" looks especially cynical. At the same time, no one knows whether this organization carries out any humanitarian mission in Syria where millions of people suffer. For my part, I would like to propose to leaders of the International Red Cross to submit a report on the work carried out by the organization in this region at one of public forums", - Sutormina said to RIA Novosti.
Sutormina emphasized that the international community should "establish an independent investigation on the incident with the shelling of the Russian mobile hospital in Aleppo and to publicly identify the perpetrators".
The official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry, Major-General Igor Konashenkov said on Monday that the gunmen of the so-called Syrian opposition attacked the Russian mobile military hospital deployed in Aleppo, Syria killing two Russian paramedics and injuring two persons from the Russian medical staff.
