RF Civic Chamber to intensify cooperation with compatriots living in the CIS and Europe
The Public Diplomacy Commission of the Civic Chamber outlined plans for next year
The final session of the RF Civic Chamber Commission on Public Diplomacy and Support for Compatriots Living Abroad in this year held on the margin of Civic Chamber’s plenary session summed up its work in 2016 and outlined plans for 2017.
Elena Sutormina, Chairwoman of the RF Civic Chamber Commission on Public Diplomacy and Support for Compatriots Living Abroad, said that active work will be continued with compatriots in the CIS and European countries, as well as cultural and humanitarian cooperation with these countries in order to improve Russia's image in the eyes of their citizens.
Andrey Dementyev, member of the Commission, added that similar work also will be carried out with Israel.
Besides, Elena Sutormina mentioned the humanitarian aid delivery for a university in Syria, which had been successful and would be repeated next year.
She said that the Russian Corner project aimed at popularization of the Russian language abroad was very successful and popular: “We started to receive a huge number of applications from schools of different countries: Great Britain, Germany, Belgium, USA, Armenia, Georgia, Greece, Austria and so on. Multimedia Russian language manuals will be sent to all of them, and, of course, we will pursue this project the next year".
Sergei Ordzhonikidze, Vice-President of the Civic Chamber of Russian Federation, said that in 2017 Russia will chair the CIS and suggested to hold a large-scale forum involving major NGOs and public organizations of Russia and the CIS countries, having noted that the corresponding agreement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already been achieved.
Sergey Markov complemented a work plan with suggestions, saying that work of the Byzantine Club will be continued as well as the Internal America Club will pursue its activities. In addition, Civic Chamber’s work will engage Germanists (experts in the field of German domestic and foreign policy) because of the upcoming elections in Germany, "the results of which will have a great importance for Russia."
Sergei Ordzhonikidze said that the Commission is going to continue assistance (regarding international issues) to the Coordination Council of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation on fight against terrorism.
